Steve Williams is a great instructor for both the kids, and adults. He had an impact on my martial arts training, and he is now contributing into my kids martial arts experience. He combines the right amount of fun with strictness, and provides a well rounded approach to self defense as well as a regulated sparring environment.

I highly recommend Dragonfly Martial Arts in McKinney, or anywhere Sensei Steve Williams teaches.

My daughters have been attending here for quite some time now and I’ve seen a tremendous increase in their confidence and their discipline has improved as well. Steve and his staff are awesome with the kids and we look forward to lessons!

Martial Arts & Academics

Academic Training and the Martial Arts Go hand in Hand.  Academics include learning math, grammar, science, social studies, and other school subjects. It also includes activities like learning to play the piano or doing the martial arts.

There is a saying, “Knowledge is power.” Learning is valuable because it builds your confidence when you learn and know things. The key to being a good learner is to pay attention. When you are learning from a teacher in a classroom, you should look, listen, think about what is being said and sit properly. This way you will learn better, and learning will be more fun.

Now once you have learned something new, you must practice it over and over to really know it and get good at it.

As a student, learning is also awesome. It is fun to learn new things. It feels good and builds your confidence when you learn and know things.  To be a good learner you must focus, which means to pay attention. If you really focus on your teacher, you will better understand and get what they are teaching.

Remember to do your homework or practice something like piano or the martial arts right away when you get home, so you will not forget what you have just learned. Doing your homework will be easier and you will do a better job. You will remember things better and be able to practice better. Always make the effort to get great grades by being an awesome learner. It will make you feel smart and that is very cool!

As a parent, the value of academic excellence is truly great. A good education offers your children the best opportunity to build a quality life. Teach your child the value of academics. It will encourage a love for learning, promote good study habits, and help them want to do well in school.

Share with your children that being a good learner offers them the potential to get into a good college, earn an excellent degree, and create a quality life for themselves. Even if they choose not to attend college, a person who has developed the mindset of a lifelong learner will stay curious and will always seek out the knowledge needed to become successful. Because knowledge is power, it helps build confidence. When a child learns and knows things,

they feel good about themselves.

Be sure to encourage good study habits in your child by having them do their homework or practice while the new material it is still fresh in their memory. This will make doing their homework or practicing easier and better. Double check their work and praise their efforts to build their confidence before offering corrections.
